Kenny Chesney Darlings Waterfront Pavillon August 13 2015

August 13th, 2015 by vli-management

Kenny Chesney

With nearly two-dozen NFL-sized stadiums plays slated for this summer, Kenny Chesney took a good look at his remaining dates and thought about the show he was planning for this tour.
“For all the time we had to create for The Big Revival Tour,” Chesney says, “I wanted to make sure the fans got to experience it. I love amphitheaters and all the fun… But I want to give the fans the same impact with the show, because The Big Revival Tour’s set up to be pretty special.”

After a year off the road, Chesney is ready to get back to the fans and Bangor, ME has been specially selected as one of the stops on his tour.
On Thursday, August 13, 2015 Kenny Chesney will bring his Big Revival Tour with special guest Chase Rice to the Darling’s Waterfront Pavilion as part of the Machias Savings Bank Concert Series.
“I can’t begin to describe the difference spending the time and being able to really focus on creating an album in terms of the songs, the production, the intensity,” Chesney says. “It feels like the same way we put this year’s tour together! We had more time to consider what we wanted, so we were able to get more creative and could dream a little more wide open…
“A year away from the fans, whether people realize it or not, is hard on me. I live to play – as much as I live to write songs and make music. So I’m ready to get out there and play this new music for people. I want give them a taste of how good The Big Revival is — and hear them singing ‘Til It’s Gone,’ ‘American Kids’ or even ‘The Big Revival’ back to me!”
Having sold in excess of a million tickets each of his headlining tours, Chesney is the only Country Artist in Billboard’s Top 10 Tour Acts of the Last 25 years – and that’s with only 12 years as a headliner. After his first stadium concert – 2003’s Neyland Stadium show, selling over 60,000 tickets in Knoxville – Chesney has played 111 football stadium shows in total.
“It’s a different kind of show, a different kind of energy – and what the fans bring in that environment hits every one of us onstage so hard,” Chesney says of the rush. “Every show is incredible, but there’s something about those really big ones. I think we were able to channel some of that excitement into the songs on this record – and I want to see if we can bring that intensity to the arenas and the few amphitheaters we’re playing this summer.”
The Big Revival, his 13th #1 Billboard Country Album debut, already yielded his 25th #1 with the multiple week chart-topper “American Kids,” also nominated for Best Country Song at the Grammys. “’Til It’s Gone,” the follow-up, is poised just outside #1 this week with a bullet.
Even the critics concur. Rolling Stone offered The Big Revival “continuously brings a sense of musical energy and emotional urgency.” while USA Today called it, “a coming-of-age tale full of life-changing memories” and The Associated Press wrote, “avoids the clichés flowing through contemporary country songs by injecting some real-life gravitas.”
“This new music takes the show to a whole other level,” Chesney says. “I’m so ready to get out there with the fans… and I think it’s gonna be a summer you won’t forget.”

Bar Harbor Music Festival June 28 – July 26, 2015

June 11th, 2015 by vli-management

Variety is the key to the Bar Harbor Music Festival, and on more than just the musical front. Concertgoers can take in everything from string orchestra concerts and nights of jazz or brass to New Composers concerts and even Opera! Our venues are as varied as the musical menu: the Bar Harbor Congregational Church, known for its excellent acoustics; The Maine Sea Coast Mission, the former Colket family mansion overlooking Frenchman Bay; Blackwoods Campground Amphitheatre in spectacular Acadia National Park; the amazing art-deco Criterion Theater (a jewel in the heart of downtown), and the elegant Bar Harbor Club. To quote music critic, Hetty Preble Archer, “A trip to the Bar Harbor Music Festival is never disappointing.”

During the past 47 years, the Bar Harbor Music Festival has advanced the careers of over 1,800 aspiring instrumentalists, singers, and composers, presenting a glorious summer of music encompassing recitals, chamber music, “Pops”, “New Composers”, opera, jazz, and string orchestra concerts. In so doing, we have provided a vital public cultural service for the community and the State of Maine. We have also had a positive impact on the region’s economy through our “Arts and Tourism” marketing initiatives.

We are celebrating our 47th Season in 2014 with 12 exciting performances June 29 – July 27. Among the highlights will be Puccini’s masterpiece, La Boheme on July 11 and the 42nd Annual Acadia National Park Outdoor Concert by the Bar Harbor Festival String Orchestra on July 23. The Festival is unrivaled in the variety of music we offer, ranging from opera to jazz. WGBH Classical New England in Boston recently selected us as “Maine’s Premier Music Festival.”

At best, ticket receipts will cover only 20% of our total costs. Contributions are the only way to make up the income gap. Our 2014 Funding Goal is $300,000. Please let your commitment to music resound by making a tax deductible contribution to our 48th Annual Drive.

With every good wish and always thanks.Sincerely,
Francis Fortier, Artistic Director

Zac Brown Band

ZAC BROWN BAND will be bringing their JEKYLL + HYDE TOUR” to the Darling’s Waterfront Pavilion in Bangor, ME on Sunday, June 7th as part of the Machias Savings Bank Concert Series to support their forthcoming album ‘JEKYLL + HYDE’ which will be out April 28, 2015, on Southern Ground/John Varvatos Records/Big Machine Label Group/Republic Records. The band will premiere new music from the album this weekend during their first performance on Saturday Night Live.
Describing the album’s direction, Zac told Rolling Stone earlier this year that it will have “things that people will expect and things that they won’t.” Digital pre-orders will include immediate downloads of “Homegrown”, “Dress Blues” and “Heavy Is the Head (feat. Chris Cornell)” at select partners. “Homegrown” — the band’s highest chart debut, which is bulleted at #10 on country radio this week — has earned massive fan support and early praise for its “rock feel” (Country Weekly) and “intricately arranged vocal harmonies” (Billboard); “Dress Blues”, written by Jason Isbell, is a somber and stirring tribute to members of the military who have been killed in service; and “Heavy Is the Head”, which features Chris Cornell, the multi GRAMMY-winning singer/songwriter and legendary frontman for pioneering rock bands Soundgarden, Audioslave and Temple of the Dog, makes its world premiere this Friday, March 6th, on iHeartRadio’s Mainstream and Active Rock station. The album also features a collaboration with Sara Bareilles.
‘JEKYLL + HYDE’ physical copies are available for pre-order now at: www.ZacBrownBand.com
‘JEKYLL + HYDE’ follows Zac Brown Band’s three platinum-selling albums, ‘Uncaged’, ‘You Get What You Give’, and ‘The Foundation’, and their 2013 project ‘The Grohl Sessions Vol. 1′, which have together sold over seven million copies, produced a historic series of eleven #1 hit singles and earned three GRAMMYs.
During release week, the band kicks off their North American stadium tour in Nashville, and throughout the summer returns for headlining shows at Fenway Park, Wrigley Field and Citi Field, in addition to several new baseball stadiums, and festivals including Hangout Music Festival and Summerfest.

TURN UP THAT DIAL… From the underground dance clubs of 1950s Memphis, Tennessee, comes a hot new Broadway musical that bursts off the stage with explosive dancing, irresistible songs and a thrilling tale of fame and forbidden love. Inspired by actual events, MEMPHIS is about a radio DJ who wants to change the world and a club singer who is ready for her big break. Come along on their incredible journey to the ends of the airwaves — filled with laughter, soaring emotion and roof-raising rock ‘n’ roll.
Winner of four 2010 Tony Awards including Best Musical, MEMPHIS played pre-Broadway at the La Jolla Playhouse and Seattle’s 5th Avenue Theatre, and features a Tony-winning book by Joe DiPietro (I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change) and a Tony-winning original score with music by Bon Jovi’s founding member David Bryan. MEMPHIS is directed by Tony nominee Christopher Ashley (Xanadu), and choreographed by Sergio Trujillo (Jersey Boys).

The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain is a group of all-singing, all-strumming Ukulele players, using instruments bought with loose change, which believes that all genres of music are available for reinterpretation, as long as they are played on the Ukulele.
A concert by the Ukulele Orchestra is a funny, virtuosic, twanging, awesome, foot-stomping obituary of rock-n-roll and melodious light entertainment featuring only the “bonsai guitar” and a menagerie of voices in a collision of post-punk performance and toe-tapping oldies. There are no drums, pianos, backing tracks or banjos, no pitch shifters or electronic trickery. Only an astonishing revelation of the rich palette of orchestration afforded by ukuleles and singing (and a bit of whistling). Audiences have a good time with the Ukulele Orchestra. Going from Tchaikovsky to Nirvana via Otis Redding and Spaghetti Western soundtracks, the Orchestra takes us on “a world tour with only hand luggage” and gives the listener “One Plucking Thing After Another”.
Using instruments small and large, in high and low registers, whether playing intricate melodies, simple tunes, or complex chords, and sitting in chamber group format dressed in formal evening wear, the Orchestra uses the limitations of the instrument to create a musical freedom as it reveals unsuspected musical insights. Both the beauty and vacuity of popular and highbrow music are highlighted, the pompous and the trivial, the moving and the amusing. Sometimes a foolish song can touch an audience more than high art; sometimes music which takes itself too seriously is revealed to be hilarious. You may never think about music in the same way once you’ve been exposed to the Ukes’ depraved musicology.

Grammy winner and 7 time Grammy nominee Paula Cole has released six solo albums spanning an eighteen year career. She has sold approximately three million albums and has performed with icons in many genres of music from Peter Gabriel to Dolly Parton (and many more.) Cole’s emotionally deep and thrilling performances are a trademark. Poetic and fiercely touching, intelligent writing makes Cole stand apart. Her compositions have been covered by Herbie Hancock, Annie Lennox, Katherine McPhee to name a few. Learn more about Paula at www.paulacole.com
